In the pre-colonial Tagalog pantheon of deities, the moon goddess is named Mayari. Along with her brother, Apolaki (the Sun god), they gave all the creatures of the earth eyes as bright as their own. After the death of their father, Bathala, the creator of the world, Mayari and Apolaki fought each other for control of the earth. Apolaki blinded his sister in one eye and they reached a truce where each sibling would rule half of a day; Apolaki’s half was filled with the warm bright light of both his eyes while Mayari’s was a cooler and gentler light from her one remaining eye.

These Mayari mugs, are siblings to the Idiyanale vessels and are decorated with astrological and alchemical symbols. They are brush-glazed by hand with a light grey to cream ombre and every cup holds approximately 15 fl. oz.
